Strategic Map

Suite of Strategic Planning Tools and Methods

Easy to learn and highly effective

Many years ago I realized that there were no effective tools and methods for strategic planning and operational planning so I set about creating a suite of tools and methods which have served me well for many years and which have been refined over time.

The basic principle is simple, easy to use tools that any client can learn to use effectively with limited training and support.

The tools are:

  1. StratSnap© – Critical issues analysis tool that can be used for analyzing something as simple as the structure for a PowerPoint presentation and as complex as competitive Market Critical Success Factors resulting in measurement of the gap between forecast and objective for any situation.

  2. StratGap© – Systematic analysis of the projects required to close the gap resulting in a systematic structured action plan.

  3. StratMatrix© – Matrix analysis where any situation is described by two related sets of parameters, directly points to the most important actions.

  4. StratMap© – Strategic gap — tying together every facet of the strategic environment in a manner that supports overall prioritization.

  5. StratAction© – Comprehensive strategic action plan — pulling together all facets of the strategic map to support one holistic and integrated plan of action.

  6. StratKPI© – Develop the Key Performance Indicators that will most directly incentivise staff to support the plan and drive it forward.

  7. StratDecision© – Evaluate the relative merits of different scenarios and take appropriate decisions.
Strategic Trajectory

Structured, Engineered Strategic Plans that Deliver Results

A suite of robust and highly structured facilitation technique, method and tools that enables client organizations to develop prioritized measurable and actionable plans to bring about lasting strategic change.

Many years ago I recognized that there was a massive gap in the market in terms of a need for a structured “”Engineering”” approach to strategic planning or, as I prefer to refer to it, “strategic analysis and design”.

After exposure to Professor Malcolm McDonald’s Exmar methodology I extracted some key concepts and, over time, developed a Critical Issues approach to Strategic Analysis and Design.

Together with this I developed a toolset in Excel — the StratSnap and StratGap analysis tools and associated method and documentation.

These tools and method provide a robust approach to structured strategic analysis running all the way through to structured strategic plans that can be traced all the way back to the initial executive workshops.

Benefits

Robust, accurate, high-value, prioritized plans, that are sustainable, actionable, reduce risk, and cost-effective. Reliable plans which focus on the key issues that deliver maximum benefit, improved profitability, improved competitiveness.

Pulse Measurement High Value Diagnostic Engagement -- Dr James A Robertson

Trouble Shooting Sub-Optimal Strategic Plan Implementations for Rapid Turnaround

Trouble shooting sub-optimal strategic plan implementations that are hindering your organization from achieving its full potential and possibly cramping growth.

I will rapidly and accurately investigate your situation and give you clear actionable findings with regard to WHY your plan is NOT delivering and HOW to FIX the problem.

I call this process a “Pulse Measurement” because it is of short duration and because it focusses on the strategic fundamentals of your business and the essence of the problem taking account of a wide diversity of possible factors that I recognize based on many years’ experience in this field.

Pulse Measurements regularly save clients considerable sums and greatly enhance the effectiveness of strategic plans as well as of system implementations.

If you have the slightest unease about your current situation, you will find a Pulse Measurement well worthwhile.

If you are significantly dissatisfied and particularly if you are experiencing BUSINESS TRAUMA, a Pulse Measurement is a MUST HAVE item — in as little as one day you can gain fresh insights into your situation and what is needed to turn adverse situations around.

A Pulse Measurement is also relevant as a HEALTH CHECK on a project or Department that is not meeting your expectations, or should you simply want an independent Expert Professional Opinion as to how you can improve the effectiveness of your plan or Department.

Benefits

Fast, cost effective, potential major savings, enhanced understanding, informed decision making, improved profitability, improved competitiveness
